As an AIBD member, and a Certified Professional Building Designer (recognized by the NCBDC structural and design testing board) many of Jim's homes specialize in designs that merge drama, open flow and natural light while incorporating natural materials and the newest technologies in energy conservation.

Working many years in a collaborative spirit with local and national artisans, the design-build team creates an enjoyable "one stop shop" for artistic design renderings and construction finishes, furnishings and artwork. JHK Designs relies on a core group of affiliates to make your home plan design, building process and living experience an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Bringing to reality the dreams of each client while respecting the family on a budget is our passion. In his spare time, Jim volunteers at various Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings and attends and hosts educational events. As the founder of wrightdocent.org, Jim hopes to bring together passionate Wright enthusiasts and hobbyist historians like himself from across the whole country and help raise funds for historic sites and preservation.

In 2010, Jim won first place in the American Residential Designs Awards (ARDA), national design competition for his rustic passive solar home built of native woods, stone and glass. He is a professional member of the AIBD and the GA Green Building Council, an NCBDC certified building designer, and is currently secretary of RDoG. Jim has completed the H.E.R.S. RESNET® written certification. As a Certified RESNET® Home Energy Rater, Jim is qualified to design, inspect, and test homes to determine their rating on the H.E.R.S. Index. His knowledge of the RESNET® standards is extremely beneficial when he designs new homes for clients as he is always ahead of the curve on the newest energy efficiency programs. Since 2012, the ENERGY STAR 3.0 standard uses the H.E.R.S. index as the baseline for all new homes constructed.
